Orkney residents making essential journeys (as detailed below)

We are continuing to follow Government guidance to protect our passengers, crew, and the wider community. We thank you for your understanding and look forward to normal service resuming as soon as possible.

Essential freight operators:
Food chain, fuel or animal feed suppliers only

Key workers:
Tradespersons/key workers who need to travel to make emergency/critical repairs on the island will be permitted to travel under the essential travel criteria. Please ensure you bring identification as a key worker and a letter from your employer in order to be permitted to board the ferry.

The following is considered essential travel for Orkney residents only:

To visit an immediate family member on the mainland who is terminally ill (you will be required to provide evidence from a medical professional that you are permitted to visit)

Attending the funeral of an immediate close family member, in line with Scottish Government guidance (attendance must be pre-arranged with next of kin and the celebrant, and you will be required to provide evidence of this)

Medical reasons or for the care of vulnerable people, you will be required to provide written and signed evidence of this from a registered GP that authorises you to travel for this reason

Travel to and from essential work – all employers should be making provision to work from home, however if this is not possible due to the nature of your employment, you will be asked for a signed letter from your employer with the reasons and dates/time of travel required.

Orkney students, who have been studying away from home, and their parents, are being permitted to make essential journeys provided that they can provide a valid student ID and/or driving licence.

NOTE: Orkney residents making essential journeys must be prepared to provide evidence that Orkney is your primary address. Please bring a recent utility bill showing your address and photographic ID. We regret that passengers without such evidence will not be allowed to travel.

Non-essential travel, which will not be permitted:

To travel to a second home
To shop
To visit friends or relatives
To holiday
